Biography of Lidy Blijdorp

Lidy Blijdorp is a young, passionate cellist with enormous narrative power, praised for her ‘breathtaking musicality’.

Lidy graduated cum laude from The Hague, Amsterdam and Paris Conservatories, where she studied with Monique Bartels and Michel Strauss. After that she obtained her Artist Diploma at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Gary Hoffman.

Lidy Blijdorp performed as a soloïst with a.o. the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, the State Hermitage Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and the Residentie Orchestra.

Lidy has broad musical interests and a passion for discovering new music. 

The following pieces have been dedicated to Lidy Blijdorp: Elegie for cello and orchestra by Sergei Yevtuschenko(2013) Lidy’s Piece by Kate Moore (2016), Cello Song–as If by Dutch composer Ig Henneman (2018), Alex, how is it going with your Cello Concertino? by the Georgian composer Alexandre Kordzaia (2020), a double concerto by Trevor Grahl (2022) and the cello concerto Trailblazer by the Dutch composer Joel Bons (2022).

Lidy obtained prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours, Charles Hennen Concours, Amsterdamse Cellobiennale, Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours (2012), Prix Academie Maurice Ravel (2014).

Lidy has the honour of playing the beautiful Farotti cello of Anner Bylsma and a Persoit bow,  both lent to her by the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
